Everyone has at least one good story in them. Here is mine. See how much of this you believe (it’s all true!).
I spent the first years of my life on a cattle ranch, separated one mile from the sandy beaches of the Santa Barbara, California, coastline.
My Airedale Terrier, Shad, and I could be on the beach, with sand between our toes, within twenty minutes, surfboard under arm, doggie snacks squished between peanut butter sandwiches, neatly stowed in a backpack, with a day’s worth of surf and unbridled exploration ahead of us.
High school was challenging because of my dyslexia. I spent more years in college than I’d like to admit. After inventing a new and incredibly obvious simplified method for reading mastery for dyslexics, I graduated with a couple of college degrees and a brand spanking new California Teaching Credential in my back pocket.
Thirty-one years later, as a Reading Specialist Teacher, who specialized in Dyslexia reading solutions, still questionably educated, still disputably informed, and occasionally funny, I found myself with a mound of educational research and data waiting to be organized and published as a book. I divided all that data into two separate books:
A Surfer’s Guide to Reading Instruction
and
A Surfer’s Guide to Better English
I hope you enjoy reading these books as much as I enjoyed writing them!
Thank you!
Tommy
